About the Student Philanthropy Project
The Student Philanthropy Project is inspired and supported by
Mr. Roger Grein, an active philanthropist in the Greater Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky area.  Roger's passion for helping college students truly understand the importance of philanthropy and the power they have in contributing to the fabric of the community has led to sixteen colleges and universities embracing his philanthropy education model.  And the list keeps growing.  Roger believes that no matter what today's students choose to do after graduation from college, they will benefit from knowing what it takes to create and support healthy communities.
Growing the Program
Having experienced tremendous success a the collegiate level, Roger's vision is to expand this program to the high school level and help teens across Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky experience hands-on philanthropy education in their classrooms or as part of their extra-curricular programs.

High School Pilot Program (2008-2009)
A variety of high schools were chosen to participate in the program for the 2008-2009 school year.  This list included both public and private schools located in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.  Teachers at these explored how to best implement the program within their schools - as part of an academic class, as part of a service class, as a focus for an after-school club, or as a standalone philanthropy program.  Working with the program coordinator, these teachers developed materials, shared experiences, and worked together to bring philanthropy education alive within their schools.  Students, teachers, parents, agency representatives and funders gathered together on May 14, 2009 to award grants and celebrate their successes.
Financial Support
Financial support for the 2008 - 2009 pilot program came from Roger, as well as the Manuel D. and Rhoda Mayerson Foundation.  We thank them for their generous support.  This year Roger Grein, and the Denny and Lois Doyle Foundation have provided money for the 2009-2010 school year.
The Future
This year we have funding for the 13 partner schools. Through generous funding from the Roger Grein and the Doyle Family we have the ability to fund a small number of programs for the 2010-2012 and 2011-2012 school year. However Roger has big plans and dreams for this program.

Here are just a few of the ways we would like to grow:

expand the number of high school students that can learn about philanthropy
increase the amount of funding we provide to each school
develop better educational resources for the teachers and students
   provide better teacher support
strengthen agency relationships to form educational partnerships
develop service, educational and fundraising opportunities for students
develop a mentoring program for the budding philanthropists
   continue to improve measurement tools

help partner schools to become self-sufficient as they continue to develop their program

In order to grown this program, we seeking financial partners who would like to see their gifts reap double the reward - seeing their gifts pass through the hands of high school students before making its way to researched, analyzed and effective non-profit agencies.
